Microsoft Excel: For Beginners & Beyond

This four-lesson class is for those who wish to begin or increase their ability to use Microsoft Excel spreadsheets. The lessons will go from the basics to using the Excel spreadsheet as a database. For those of you that are entirely new to spreadsheets, a spreadsheet at its simplest is a table consisting of columns and rows used to store textual information. Its purpose is to store, manipulate, and present financial and other quantitative information. Keep in mind that you don’t need to know everything about using spreadsheets. Homework and practice are essential for learning and ultimately retaining what you’ve learned. So, set aside time for homework and enjoy learning.
Lesson 1 – Spreadsheet Formatting
● What is a spreadsheet, workbook? ● Basic functions, Columns, Rows and Cells ● Adding contents to a cell ● Computation and Formulas – simple arithmetic ● Saving the Spreadsheet
Lesson 2 – Spreadsheet Formatting
● Insert Rows and Columns ● Adjust Column width and row height ● Selecting, renaming and moving tabs ● Change cell font size, type, and other features ● Format cells for dates, numbers, currency, and percentages ● Entering formulas into cells: copy & paste, using formulas, autofill
Lesson 3 – Formatting Cells, Formulas, and Cell Addressing
● Freezing Columns and Rows ● Formatting Cells ● Entering Formulas into cells including copy & paste ● Absolute and Relative cell addressing ● Printing an Excel Workbook
Lesson 4 – Using Excel as a Database
● Range, Filtering and Sorting Data ● Using Common Statistical Functions ● Creating Charts & Tables
