It is best to Zoom on your desktop or laptop so you can follow along on your iPhone or Android phone.
Prerequisite: Ability to take photos with your iPhone or Android phone.
Photography can add so much to our lives by recording and sharing special events, places, family and friends, and most importantly, our cherished memories. It can also be a wonderful hobby, as it gets us out and about, keeps us busy and creative, and enables us to continue to learn, grow, and enjoy life. Join us to learn about some of the most popular types of photography (Portraiture, Candid, Landscape, Nature, etc.), best practices to improve your photography skills, tips and techniques to enhance the quality of your photos, and photo editing to adjust/enhance your most important photos. We also offer an optional photo workshop after Lessons 1 and 2, so you can practice what you’ve learned. We’re certain to pique your interest and enjoyment of this wonderful hobby.
SeniorNet’s Smartphone Photography Lessons 1 and 2 will teach you about the most popular types of photography (portraiture, landscape, candid, nature, etc.), as well as best practices that help you improve your photography skills. Each lesson is followed by a free and optional Photo Workshop, where you can discuss and learn from each other’s photos.
Lesson 3 is all about photo editing, using the Apps on your smartphone, and a third-party App named Snapseed. Even though you may be taking great photos, you will learn how to adjust or enhance your most important photos, making your best photos perfect.
Lesson 1

- Discuss and view examples of three of the most popular types of photography: Portraiture, Street, and Candid Photography.
- Learn about best practices that can improve your skills, and evoke interest and emotion in viewers of your photos: Depth of Field, Framing, Layering, and Light.
- Utilize tips and techniques to increase the quality of your photos: Watch Distracting Backgrounds; Get Closer!
- Practice what you learned by discussing your photos in an optional Photo Workshop.
Lesson 2
● Landscape: Nature / Wildlife / Architectural ● Composition Best Practices ● Smartphone Settings ● Take/Share Photos
- Discuss and view examples of three popular types of photography: Landscape, Nature/Wildlife, Architectural Photography.
- Learn about best practices that can improve your skills, and evoke interest and emotion in viewers of your photos: Subject Matter, Rule of Thirds, Leading Lines, Reflections, Positioning/Perspective.
- Utilize tips and techniques to increase the quality of your photos: Find the Light, Take Many Photos, Forget About Perfection.
- Practice what you learned by discussing your photos in an optional Photo Workshop.
Lesson 3
● Photo Editing ● Smartphone Native Editing Apps ● Third-Party Editing App: Snapseed
