Streaming Video – Online
2 sessions of 1.5 hours each
This course is appropriate for Mac and PC users.
There is a whole world of entertainment and educational media available to you beyond what is offered to you by your regular TV service provider. In this two-lesson class, you will learn about the different ways to stream video and access these sources either on your TV, tablet, computer, or phone. You will learn what hardware (Roku, Chromecast, etc.) and/or software you’ll need, and how to set them up. You’ll also learn how to “Cut the Cord” and the many ways to stream video without paying your cable company for TV. In this class we will discuss how to search out these different stations and connect to them.
Lesson 1 – What is streaming video? ● Devices you can stream to ● Wi-Fi vs. Hardwiring ● Comparison of streaming appliances
- We’ll discuss what streaming video means.
- The different devices you can stream video to.
- The benefits and/or disadvantages of using Wi-Fi, or hard wiring, depending on which device you stream the video to.
- Available streaming appliances to you’ll need to connect to the Internet (advantages, disadvantages, differences).
Lesson 2 – Set up Smart TV & Android TV ● Connect Streaming Stick to TV and the Internet ● Streaming Video and Educational sites ● Searching for sites ● Cutting the Cord
- Set up a smart TV or Android TV.
- If you don’t have a smart TV or Android TV, how to set up an streaming appliance (Chromecast or Roku) to connect your TV to the Internet.
- We’ll discuss some of the streaming video or educational sites available to you and how to search for them and connect to them.
- Then we’ll discuss some of your options to “cutting the cord” and their advantages and disadvantages.
